I think you are saying that the image of the mountain and the word mountain are not related, that we name them mountains because of the language we speak & think in...the second part I do not get, and do not so much care for... I don't know how you can 'see them again as mountains and waters' -- I see things as things and the names are arbitrary to me, and are only useful for forming memories and communicating ideas. I find the part about enlightenment to be smug and subtly condesending.

I must say, in defense of Byron Janis, that he was playing under a time constraint on the old Bell Telephone Hour back in the 60's. That's why there is a hazy look and why there is no appause. Also he had to really rush through that last cadenza so that the network would not run over. Please listen to his recording with Charles Munch. Better than his other recording with Antal Dorati. He doesn't rush, although he is extremely virtuosic.

This guy is great, but if he'd just slow down just a little bit more in some sections, it'd be soooooo much better.
