I really want to be a pilot in the coast guard, and i've been on there website and it you have to be an officer ofcourse, but it said you have to be 21 years or older to go to OCS (officer canidate school) and its 17 weeks long, and other people say its only 9 or 14 weeks long and some say you can go to OCS right after BCT (when your 18) does any one know for sure???

She's more than welcome to follow you, but in order to live in government housing she needs to be your wife. If you're stationed somewhere w/out housing so you recieve the housing allowance you can do what you want. It totally depends where you end up stationed. & in some places regular housing is scarce or expensive (think Ketchikan AK or NYC)... It's a pain in the a.

officer candidate school is what you should apply for if you've already graduated from college. I believe the commitment is 5 years. officer candidate school itself is 14 weeks. after that your family would be able to move to wherever you are stationed, and deployments on ship are generally not more than three months

Well, actually, there are PSU, TACLET LEDETs, and Cutters in the northern arabian gulf apart of OIF right now. The Coast Guard deploys LEDETs, MSSTs, and PSUs to Haiti. The Cutter Dallas went tot the Republic of Georgia for aid relief when it was invaded by Russia. There are PSU DET and an AVDET at GITMO Bay. They even sent a Cutter down to Malaysia for medical relief. Also, the Dallas was training African Navies on how to defend against pirates. There is alot more to CG than DHS.

yeah i know how you feel i was Q-179 just graduated in June. well heres a few tips for you to help you get by. Learn your general knowledge before you get to Cape May. your 11 general orders should be verbatim. and theres no such thing as flying under the radar. the coast guard is small enough so that everyone gets their attention :-D

1983 animation test by Disney, directed by John Lasseter (who went on to direct and produce most of the Pixar films, including Toy Story). Back then Disney owned the film rights to the Where The Wild Things Are books... they didn't use them, though, so they lost them. Check out this amazing test, which combined traditional hand-drawn, 2D animation with then-state-of-the-ar t 3D computer animation!

I wish I could see the whole thing completed. The soft, squash-and-stretched tradigital look of Max and the dog is beautiful. Lasseter really knows his work. I'd say it's a shame Disney was dumb enough to fire him, but if they hadn't there would be no Pixar.

Especially when they did do that car in 101 Dalmatians, it was basically a live-action prop painted white with black markings that was photographed, then transferred to cels in the same manner that was done with the CGI renderings (Don Bluth used that technique to a similar effect in this films).

I think it worked fine in Great Mouse Detective, but in Oliver it looked like the worst parts of 101 Dalmatians. Granted, in most scenes in Oliver its hard to pick out, but the limo chase scene was not great. And, I agree...Beauty and the Beast is easily the best example. Take that lave waved from Aladdin!!!

Beauty & The Beast is the best example of what they were trying to do with this short piece. Similarly, they tried a similar technique of combining CG backgrounds/vehicles with 2D characters in the films "The Great Mouse Detective" and "Oliver & Co." Those were made using vector-based graphics that were printed out of a plotter and then transferred to cels to be colored in. It gave those films a more uniformed look though some may think those objects were hand-drawn meticulously.

It was at least possible to have a camera move around a background the way it is shown here, but to render characters fully in that environment still needed some working out to fully achieve such unified dynamics. When Lasseter went to work with Lucasfilm's CG division, he tried to incorporate those elements that made 2D animation work in the 3D figures of Andre & Wally B. in that film, and I remember seeing that film about 23-24 years ago and was impressed at what could be done even then.

I just noticed for the first time that the chef scrapes the food using the blade side of the knife... something no real big time chef would do because it dulls the knife a considerable amount and you do not want to have to spend more time than necessary sharpening your knives and eventually having to replace your knives from all of the sharpening. I dont understand the point of this. Motion capture with dot points is better because you can use those for your own made up character in games. with this you have to base every picture of the character in game off of the real person. and in that case why not just put the real person in it instead of just maing the real person look animated. I'm wondering if they should have shot at the helm instead of the bow. The Korean captain was the one running, so they should have just fired the cannon at him and ended it there. Getting up close to the Korean boat would have been much safer had the Nth. Korean captain had the shit shot out of him. The deck hands probably would have been happy to spend a few years in a Japanese jail and simply surrendered.

Been there done that. I was an AD3 HH52A SAR crewman,was,nt any swimmers then! The 52 had lottsa room in em. My first night duty at Arst.Miami WE rescued 2 guys off a train and a family of 5 of thier roof east of Lake occachobbe after a dike burst. My 3d rescue was night storm rescue,a retired couple of a sailboat by Stilltsville.My4th was a day/storm. A father & son of a demasted hobbie headed for rocks just offshore nrth of downtown in Biscyne Bay.I was proud of every day I served in the USCG!

Probably a few reasons. They may have wanted to get the kids to EMS ASAP to treat for hypothermia. The cabin of the HH65C is pretty small. Limited space depending on how many crew and how much gear they brought. Lastly, depending on wind direction and speed, air temp and fuel load they may have had power concerns. The pilots, swimmer, and flight mech discuss it all before they begin the evolution and come up with the best plan for the current situation.

they didn't do it one at a time, they did it 2 at a time. I think it was just to make room, because they were operating out of a smaller HH-65c or b dolphin, compared to the beastly HH-60j Jayhawk which has a much larger cabin.

I have flown on many missions with the CG as a flight mechanic. You raise a good ?. The Dolphin is a small helicopter compared to others, but they should have been able to fit them inside. The only thing I can think of is they did not want to leave the kids unattended inside the helo. Regardless of the reason, I know the crew talked about the pros and cons of their decision beforehand.

They did 2 at a time, mostly because of weight. There are already 4 crew in the helicopter. When you add two survivors, 6 bodies total, it's more work for the engines and pilots, and hovering takes a lot of power. 8 bodies (with full fuel) would be very difficult. When you hear the co-pilot say "you're in the yellow" he's referring to the power being near it's limits (in the red). Plus if there is an accident, better to have as many people as possible safely on the ground.

The boaters were not in a kayak. they were in about a 14 foot boat. I live there and know the story. A friend of mine was there and called it in to 911. This is the only case I know of that any one survived on this damn. This is not just any river. This is the Colorado River. People that go over usually die! Thanks to the fast responce to the other boaters (my friends) and the Fantastic Coast Guard, Thank God they were saved!!!
