He sounds much better with a backing band, imo. Without, it just sounds like he's practicing. No dynamics, very little vibrato, mostly just straight 16th note scalar runs. Paul Gilbert is a great technician but I personally prefer his teaching material, his music just doesn't do it for me at all.

Its really amazing how he does it. He is playing the left hand part of the song always constant throughout the entire song, and at one point the right hand kind of goes off the rhythm but then again, it still has rhythm. I dont understand, its as if his hands/fingers were being controlled by two different brains. Maybe his brain is just music. I guess it explains for his expressions aswell.
