The first time I heard some of SRV's live material being played at work, I thought it was Hendrix. Don't get me wrong, I liked it, because I liked Hendrix.
By: grga888. on 04 Dec 08, 09:30:51
I mean how can some folks go on saying that SRV ripped of Jimi Hendrix's style when at the same time SRV is claimed to be a guitar god who had an unique, inovative and one of a kind of style that sounded like nobody (regardless of an genre). You can look through many genres and guitar players, but you will never ever find such a monster, beast and guitar god as SRV. He was influenced by Hendrix, but he wasn't trying to be him. He was himself all the time doing his own thing and game.
By: grga888. on 04 Dec 08, 09:26:33
He was influenced by Hendrix, but to say that he copied his style and stuff like that is wrong cause he didn't. He was himself. BTW. He was never even influenced by Johnny Winter. Johnny was never an influence on Stevie. I don't know where you got that information, but nope. Just cause he is from Texas as Stevie, doesn't mean automatically that he influenced Stevie. Stevie had his share of influences that were pretty much the same as Jeff's influences, but Stevie was quite original too.

Yes nearly a PURE fact (more than mere influence) but with Johnny Winter influence too. That is not a put down as I'm guilty of the same. Stevie was a very good player yet quite derivative. Jeff Beck on the other hand was breaking away from the pack and sounding quite original.
By: panzerschnott. on 04 Dec 08, 00:08:01
I think that every guitar player since late 1966 has copied Hendrix to some degree, especially the big guys.
By: grga888. on 03 Dec 08, 20:36:24
Uhhh, that was a pretty lame and worthless comment. He was influenced by him like every other guitar player on this planet and covered a couple of his songs as showing respect and tribute to him. That is all and that ain't no big deal. But most importantly he was himself all the time and he had his own unique style. For crying out loud, he had the fattest tone in guitar history, he used heavy strings ranking from 13's-18's and he is one of the strongest rhythm players of all time.
By: Ransacker65. on 03 Dec 08, 20:15:57
uhhh, if u know music history, he totally copied jimi hendrix's style.
By: dare2protest. on 03 Dec 08, 11:26:52
only a STRATOCASTER!
By: grga888. on 03 Dec 08, 10:37:02
Totally right feetheweasel. SRV had the best tone ever, by far the fattest tone in guitar history! He would always use heavy strings, tune it to Eb and simply go from there and just make the guitar cry, cry and cry like nobody else.
By: Shandaminion. on 03 Dec 08, 06:06:20
sounds alot like e flat
By: dbikeguy. on 03 Dec 08, 03:32:52
hey, becks got some good feel too. but srv is always gonna be my favorite
By: Rondopolumbo. on 03 Dec 08, 02:13:25
when ppl reach the level they are, can't really do any comparing, there both just awesome musicians plain n simple
By: feetheweasel. on 03 Dec 08, 02:02:17
SRV had the best tone ever. The difference btw the two are simple,,, SRV feels his way through a tune, and Beck thinks his way through. Both are great,,,but I'll go for tone and feel, over skill and technique everytime. Go awesome together,,,,
By: Ransacker65. on 03 Dec 08, 00:14:12
dude, they're really close, dont say anything until u heard more of their music. Its true that SRV let loose on this song, but that doesnt mean Jeff Beck is necessarily worse, actually, hes prolly better than SRV by a hair. I dont know, just listen to their music and then compare them
By: schultz970. on 02 Dec 08, 22:33:50
Saw this tour at the Mil. Auditorium Oct. 1989 FIRST ROW!!!!! Awesome. Both men play like the guitar is an extension of their bodies. RIP SRV.

Yo Junior, Chill out. I was making a joke. You know nothing about me and should check yourself. I was jamming to SRV and Jeff Beck before you were an itch in your daddy's yambag. I personally hate Guitar Hero and have only played it once to confirm that it sucked. Incidentally, I got the high score.
By: GURUFRYER. on 01 Dec 08, 23:14:50
you are such a crap thinking you could ever play like them only because you play that stupid console!
By: xSkippydx. on 01 Dec 08, 21:44:24
i dont really care about who is better. i enjoy the music and the magic that happens when i see these people perform live. my favorite part of this clip is when stevie smiles real big during one of his solos. he was such a happy person when he played.
By: thelowmax. on 01 Dec 08, 15:33:31
Stevie Ray versus Jeff Beck?!?!?!? I bet they both suck at Guitar Hero.
By: thelowmax. on 01 Dec 08, 15:31:25
wow. Like gasoline and fire together again!!!!!
By: Hippyslob. on 01 Dec 08, 04:33:03
Who cares who's better! They have different styles and are both accomplished guitarists.Take it for what it is...an awesome jam session! Peace
By: semitar6. on 01 Dec 08, 00:18:33
Comparing these too is really futile. They are both great and are well established parts of music history. Personally im glad they both came around.
