how does he bend the harmonics to the exact pitch up and down with the vibrato bar? The man is the finest electric guitarist alive.... he says more with so much less than boring million notes per second shredders with no dynamics. Every note is on a different pick up, different tone , AMAZING!

if by VAI's version you mean the shred version thats on limewire and stuff, i dont think thats Vai, people have said its satch, yngwie, slash, ext... Good version none the less, but how can you compare them? This is just beck being beck, there is no shredding lol, unless you call what beck does shredding, because in a sense he is super technical and it takes alot of skill to do what he does. if that makes sense...

so nice to finally see this guy in action. never knew he used fingers instead of pick or that he controlled the whammy the way he does. Eric Johnson says Beck virtually created the bending technique that emulates a synthesizer roller wheel. always thought he did it by pulling the strings. i still love his work on Stevie Wonder's Talking Book album, especially his unforgettable solo on "Looking For Another Pure Love."

I have a 91 strus plus with the jeff beck roller nut and lace sensors. I play through a jcm 900 marshall 2 by 12 unit. I use a pick for jazz and faststuff only. This set up is close to what jefff beck uses . Jeff uses a quad boxes and marsahll vale heads. he does use a a distorition box, a delay and a wah.The rest is in his hands. Only jeff beck makes me say " how the hell is he doing that??!"

well, you should pick one size of strings and stick with them; changing string tension on a stratocaster messes with the action and tremolo tension. So pick a size you like, put them on and get them stretched out. Then tune your guitar perfectly, dive bomb a few times, and see how it ended up being tuned. If you're going sharp loosen your spring tension, if you're going flat tighten it. Retune your guitar and repeat again and again until your guitar can survive a few divebombs.

it's all in the setup the nut helps, locking tuners experiment with different spring tensions in the back of the strat, tune it, dive bomb it, see which side goes sharp or flat and adjust, do it again and again until it stays in tune through a few dive bombs. don't worry about your springs being slightly uneven in the back; they should be.

Unlike cheapos like kenny g, Grover gave smooth jazz a good name. I think about this when I hear people anxiously naming Charlie and Miles when in the middle of cultured conversations, if just to appear cool. Eric Gale's progression after 3:29, closely followed by Tony and Steve, is an all-time work of art; can't get enough of it.

Most likely it's some sort of phase shifter. I've been trying to figure out which one he's using for YEARS. You can get a similar sound with a SMALL STONE phaser set in the lower position, but it's not the same the Richard is using. It could be a UNI-VIBE. His sound is little phatter than a regular phase shifter; maybe a chorus pedal thrown in for good measure.
