yes, nostalgic is the word you are after. and yes, this era crue is a band at the top of their game, bar none. i havent been a huge fan of much since the whole john corabi album. that was a great album, but not a crue album, they should have changed their name, and since then, they just havent been as good. it seems they try too hard to be cool nowdays, when they just WERE cool back then. too fast and shout are 2 of my favourite albums of all time. all hail the early 80's crue!!!

Definitely the 1974 Europe run, no doubt about it. This is shortly before the October Winterland run that became the "Movie". Speaking of equipment that gives this away, I'm a drummer and Billy is playing on the kit that he briefly used in 74. Very 70s, no bottom heads and no floor toms, the toms are mounted all the way around. Is there more footage of this?

I'd bet that this footage is from Saturday, September 21, 1974 Palais des Sports, Paris, France. Row Jimmy was the opener for the third set and was followed by Big River. A comparison with another (far better) audio source for the same show seems to confirm this. Any takers on the bet?

Definitely 1974, you can tell by Garcia's guitar. In 72 he played a strat, in 73 he played a white guitar, the guitar in this video is the proto type for the rose bud and tiger guitar he would come to play and I think there is some truth to the show being in Paris...Just before the Winterland shows in October, they did play Paris, and on 9-21-74 they did play Row Jimmy into Big River...

Ah - I thought you were questioning the year and not the venue locale -- I think the logic methodology applied here is matching a recording (e.g., see jpriley80 a few posts above, who apparently has a soundboard of the show which would obviously have the date documented) with the video. Deadbase is helpful with this, as would be the Way Back Machine Internet Archive, if you're not already familiar with those tools for archeological digs. Enjoy.

GFTO tour, 1977. Saw them at The Forum in LA. It was also the tour that Alan White used that funky green drum kit with the "air scoop" on the bottom of each drum. He did use a few of these drums on the following tour, 1978's Tormato, but that tour was the first of their "In The Round" concerts and some of the funky "air scoop" drums were red instead of green. Seems like he did a mix and match kit of all his favorite drums for that tour.

I saw the Rockets in 1978..the were the second act on a three band bill with 38 Special opening and The Outlaws were the headliner. It was at the Nassau Coliseum on Long Island. Place was sold out with 18,000 peopl and the crownd never gave the Rockets a chance...booed them from the first song....Proof that long Island is filled with ignorant douchebags that wouldn't know good music if it bit them in the ass.
