It's not so much that the technique is difficult it's that most people don't understand. Basically Bert Jansch who really pioneered the 'strum and pick at the same time" guitar technique so you get that sound like it's two guitars is basically as Neil himself said "He is the hendrix of the acoustic guitar". He basically got that technique in the mid the late 60's from Bert and has used it a lot as in this song here.

This song is amazing! I only heard it a few days ago on a program about him on the BBC. Already one of my favourite songs ever, the lyrics just speak to me. Oh and to the people saying rap isn't music, you need to broaden your horizons a bit. Listen to some Nas, some of his lyrics are incredible in complexity and meaning. It's actually not sped up at all, all the songs in the film and soundtrack are played way faster than in the individual albums. They were all doing cocaine during this time and it could be that mixed with adrenaline. The version of Crosseyed and Painless from the film is played very fast and is way better than in Remain in Light. They were on fire those nights. My favorite band of all time. Too bad there is no footage of Television Man played live. That's a perfect song.

Eh - I was referring to when this session was filmed.....which is debatable really and there's no solid evidence out there as to the exact date - maybe someone can come up with better facts than this. But I distinctly remember that they played NYC in and around about 1997-8 and taped these sessions which were later released as CD and subsequently the DVD. I also remember hearing it for the first time on the radio and was TOTALLY blown away by the sound and the tightness of the gig.

Years ago I saw a documentary showing David Byrne experimenting with lyrics and sounds. The guy is just so creative. He also did an album with Brian Eno "My Life in the Bush of Ghosts" which evidenced the creativity of both but I prefer the early days of Talking Heads when it was just David Byrne, Tina Weymouth, Jerry Harrison and Chris Frantz. Best albums "Fear of Music" and "More Songs about Buildings and Food".

I thought this was their best performance in the film. It was the only tune where you heard the unadulterated Talking Heads. No extra guitarists, keyboards, or backing musicians. Just a very solid performing 4-piece band.
