Its strange to be scared of needles like this, because you know she won't die from bloodloss or any physical injuary, but you know she will get AIDs (or something) and you've been taught all your life to NOT EVER TOUCH USED NEEDLES!!! You are welcome - I love sharing my love of needle felting! There are a couple of reasons not to felt the torso firm - It makes it easier to attach the limbs and it makes sculpting the final shape after the limbs are on much easier. And - it takes much less poking!

You need a felting needle, you can buy them from a few places online and they come in different sizes. They have little sharp burrs as the end of the needle to pull the wool around, if you do an online search different companies will be able to advise you what size needle you need. Hope that helped!

I avoid poking in straight because I do not want my sculptures to be solid - I am teaching soft sculpting techniqes. I teach this technique both in my online classes and in person- it seems to work out well. Very few broken needles! But that's the thing with needle felting - no rules. So whatever works for you is awesome!!

i would never teach it like that!...it loooked as tho ur needle was on a slant the whole time.Beginners will break their needles constantly if they do it like that,especially if they dont know how it works!.I always push the peice down onto foam/at least slightly and then push the needle directly in(not on a slant).This makes all my creatures pretty solid.

I have never made a dog but if I did; I would use a long fibered wool like Merino or even silk fiber for a yorkie in top form (roving with the fibers combed into one direction) Tear small tufts and lay on body attach ends only by lightly needling to the body with a fine felting needle. Start at the lowest part of the body and work your way up in layers. Once it's all attached, gently comb the wool and trim it to length with scissors. Describing how is very difficult without pictures or videos
