I think the way Treebeard did not make the decision initially to go to was against Isengard was a mistake. I know i am nit-picking, but I do wish the honorable attributes of the characters was true (another example is faramir - when in the movie he decides to take Frodo to minas tirith, when in the book he proved his "quality" and Frodo thought he had an elvish air about him, perhaps that of a Numenorian heritage). I will though give credit where credit is due, these characters were very well done: Gandalf, Saruman, Sam, Frodo, Boromir, Eomer, and Elron. That is IT. The rest falter in some way. But the worst of the worst is Gimli, Legolas, Faramir, Merry, Pippin, Theoden and Eowyn. All ESSENTIAL characters. I will also give credit to the plot. The correct things were cut showing (i.e. Bombadil)and the essential part of the story. Elves showing up at Helms Deep was crap. This lessened the victory

He did the best he could huh? In the novel Gimli is one of the most thoughtful, intelligent, fair speaking characters, and Jackson seemed content with making Gimli clinically retarded. Aragorn in the novel is tall, grizzled, proud and strong. In the movie Aragorn is anything but the descendant of the proud race of Elros. He is like a 100 pound weakling stuck on the wrestling bench. Viggo Mortensen? A young Sean Connery would have been badass. I could go on and on.
