back in 1996 i saw ZZ TOP in Brussels (belgium), it was one of the best bands i ever saw live, there where about 12.000 people i guess, i was the only one who was so lucky to get backstage after the concert, it was was a fine evening with lot's of rock'n roll :-) GREAT BAND from Texas, my TRES HOMBRES is my favourite record, timeless record, and all the songs are great .... pure rock ! i remember seeing them many times at fillmore west and winterland, san francisco. Loved this Fleetwood Mac Peter Green was so freakin amazing...so bluesy, so raw this sound. only just getting used to Stevie nicks and appreciate her (and I guess Lindsay Buckingham)...but consider them two different bands that should have been renamed after Peter left.

You can see Danny break a string at about 1:51... goes in for the kill, the string breaks, he pushes it aside, then goes right on down the neck to the next riff. Awesome! You can hear Peter mention the broken string at the beginning of the next song, the video for "World Keep on Turning". I also love how (much like John Entwistle of the Who) John McVie can play such a rowdy bass groove while standing so calmly on the stage, looking so mellow or spaced out. Sweet!

Regarding the differculty with the double stops played as fills over a stop time verse, if I may offer a suggestion. Play them with just two fingers (perferably the 2nd & 3rd fingers) in a downward slide, sliding back up with the same two fingers only when neccessary. It will allow you to play this part smoother. Check out "bluesplayinhen" 's two versions of Hideaway. Even thought the part is differant it is executed in the same manner. 'Hope that helps.

That was amazing i love blues. personally i would have paid to see that. =) For me the thing that sets the strat apart is the price versatility and avalabilty in left hand... its a cruel world for leftys but there is always a comforting warm home with fender =P

I'd love to have both, especially a lp goldtop like that one. I have a MIM 60th anniversary strat and I love it because I can play pretty much anything with it. I would prefer a lp when I'm playing Slash maybe, but for what I'm into right now (BLUES!) the strat is king. Plus, I have an Ibanez Jetking and it's got the dual humbuckers. In the end, 90% of your sound comes from the pickups and the amp, so if you have pickups you like and an amp you like, stuff like fingerboards doesn't matter.

Both these guitars and thier owners are great! My preference though has to be with the LP. I've tried out the starts for a while, but I don't like the shape of the body or of the neck, and the tones aren't quite what I like. Les Pauls though, man... I fell in love with mine at Guitar Center... They feel so much better to me, the neck is so smooth, and the notes sound out so much louder and deeper. thier works of art. Great guitars, but I'll stick with Gibson. =] Keep up the awesome plaing!

In my opinion the Les Paul is a one trick pony, only able to dish out plain rock, it does a fricken awesome job of it, but the more versatile of the two is the Fender. Playability is personal preference, so those comments can be disreguarded. In my opinion strats can achieve a much broader spectrum of sounds, from blues to rock and even metal (Iron Maiden & Megadeath play strats). Its like the rosewood vs maple arguments, it all comes down to personal preference, so try out both. :)

Right on, Mike Bloomfield is one of the best ever, I don't see many people doing covers of his stuff, its because not many people can do it, He goes along with Hendrix and SRV, People simply can't replicate the power,control, and tone they had. Alot of people I talk to say they never heard of Mike Bloomfield, its real sad. I say two words East-West, one of the best instrumentals ever, simply amazing, Mike Bloomfield must not be forgotten.

You are right that the background vocals are totally mute, this show was clearly not well mic'd. Maybe the record company "enhanced" the concert with some studio session time? I think this version "lost the groove" because they played it too fast, but Mike Bloomfield, to me is one of the greatest "unsung" blues guitar players of all time. So, so, sorry, we lost him, so early. Truly a great blues player. Marc Trainor.

Nicely put Bigfrank. I fully agree. Couldn't have said this any better myself. Peter is my favorite white Blues guitar player-and singer. He just had whatever it takes to play the Blues and touch and move you with all the right notes I think. He didn't need hundreds of notes like so many others. He just played the ones that count.

Peter left the band, Mick Fleetwood had other members after that, each contibuter to that band brought there own style. It is not fair to talk bad about Buckingham or Nicks, they were asked to join and it kept Fleetwwod Mac on the map. These are two different bands with the same name. You have to remember that this band sold more albums that anyone in the 70's. I love both bands, they brought there own style to this band.

OK, I was thinking Strat's middle pickup, which is reverse wound to provide hum canceling. After reading all the comments I see that you just flipped the magnet, which on a dual coil pickup, works just as good. My R7 must have something else going on. Cheers

My R7 has the reverse polarity of the magnets in the 57 classic PUPs. And it gets a sweet tone, but not "nasal" as this. If the pickups coils are wired in reverse "internally" than it will be "full" out of phase like a strat that is in the 2nd or 3rd switch position. That is what gets that "Peter Green" biting nasal tone. Two conductor pickups can only be wired "Full" out of phase internally and with the magnet polarity reversed.

As far as I know you can get the same result by rewiring the pickups out of phase. By opening up the pickup and flipping the magnet you are likely to ruin it if you are not VERY CAREFUL, especially if it has been wax potted! It seems that this is what has happened to TheGreatEation.

I did the PG mod to my Epiphone LP standard yesterday, but inside the pickup was full of wax, so I had to remove the backplate to get to the magnet (I couldn't just push it out because of the wax). Then I flipped it, reassembled the whole thing, and now the neck pickup doesn't work at all. Do you have an idea, what can be wrong?

God, thats about exactly the rig I would like now, though I would prefer a goldtop - maybe with a bigsby. Right now I'm playing mostly telecaster with an orange and also some on a Ampeg jet, but holy shit this sound great! Not just for blues, but for pure r'n'r! If more gain is needed, I'd just use a good tslike pedal. God this video gives me GAS!

Tone-wise.. that is my favorite of your Les Pauls. They ALL sound GREAT though!! You get the best f****ng TONE!!! I love my Epiphone Les Pauls, but even with Gibson pickups they don't have that lush tone your guitars have.

Listen to mid 60's BB King, plenty of reverb from a Super Reverb. It's how you use it, and knowing when not to. Peter Green was a master at using BOTH dry and wet reverb drenched tone. I like both too.

i went through the reverb thing. then i figured out the real gtr guys use NONE. in record or live you add it at the console. live sucks. i been there. saw BB King on a good night. zero reverb. look up Eddie Van Halen namm 2007 (i think) no reverb. etc. etc. hey being a gtr player today is way too hard of a life. i wonder, what will be the next art? the feedback sounds good. takes off real nice.

You're right the reverb coming through the compression of the Vid cam mic, makes it seem like I've got the reverb dimed. It's the mic on the Vid cam...but you're correct. It's more reverb than I need.

Lets see, I am playing through a Marshall 50w...at this time, I had my JBL's in my Pro Reverb. I played the Marshall head through the Pro Cab. I have since got an all Birch ply Marshall style semi open back cab. These do have chrome dust caps. Thanks though.
